Byron Bay Sea Turtle School offers a unique opportunity to learn about, swim alongside and help protect sea turtles in one of Austalia’s oldest and most diversely beautiful marine sanctuaries, Nguthungulli Julian Rocks (NJR), which is home to more than 1000 marine species.

Our Marine Scientist guided workshops are informative and engaging, covering topics including ecology, biology and the critical roles sea turtles play in our ecosystems.

Learning to identify the species of local sea turtles and how to correctly interact and photograph them in their natural environment during the open water experience gives our students hands-on “Citizen Science” conservation work training. Collecting valuable data using Photo-Identification is essential in helping to protect these critically endangered animals for future generations. Plus, if you photograph a turtle that isn’t named yet then you get to choose the name!

During the open water experience our students may also encounter marine life such as Eagle, Manta & Bull Rays, Leopard, Grey Nurse & Wobbegong Sharks amongst more than 500 species of tropical and temperate fish and even Dolphins & Whales while on the short boat ride leaving directly from The Pass in Byron Bay.

$5 will be donated to Australian Seabird & Turtle Rescue Hospital Ballina from every purchase.

Byron Bay Sea Turtle School holds a permit to conduct marine turtle scientific research within the Cape Byron Marine Park (CBMP) issued by NSW DPI (permit #MEAA23/222).

Be a part of the solution for the conservation of sea turtles!
